Old censuses contain a wealth of data about diverse facets of bygone societies. Those looking for data about population, migration, education, landownership, labour, housing, agriculture, industry and other characteristics of society and individual lives over the past two centuries can use these sources.
The HISSTAT teamís expertise is available to those looking for information from the national statistics that were collected at micro-level (i.e. data at the municipality level from 1800 to 1970 and at the individual level since 1961).
Upon request, users can obtain choropleth maps that display the historic borders (before 1970) of Belgian municipalities in PDF format (see example below).
